Privacy Policy
aravaa is a coffee companion app (brew recipes, a brew journal, a café map) built by Orith Labs. This page explains what the app collects, why, where it is kept and how you can delete it. It covers the aravaa mobile app and this website.
What we collect
Account
You sign in with a phone number (one-time code), Google, Apple or an email and password. We receive the identifier that method provides (phone number, email address, and your name or photo if Google or Apple share them) and which method you used. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see them.
Profile and preferences
Your display name, optional profile photo, language, units, experience level, favourite brew styles, roast and taste preferences, milk and sweetness choices, your equipment list, whether you turned on brew reminders, and your onboarding progress. From your journal we also keep running totals (such as brew counts and average rating) used to build your coffee profile.
Journal and saved items
Each brew you log: recipe or method, beans, roaster, origin, dose, water, ratio, time, temperature, grind, rating, taste notes, your notes, the date, and an optional photo you attach. Cafés and recipes you save.
Location
If you allow it, the app uses your device location while it is open (not in the background) to centre the map and find cafés near you. The app does not save your location to your account. The map is drawn by Google Maps or Mapbox, which receive the requests needed to load map tiles and, on a café page, Google may show place information from Google Places; their own privacy policies apply to that.
Notifications
If you allow notifications (for example a brew-stage reminder), we store a push token for your device, its platform and when it was last seen, so Firebase Cloud Messaging can reach it.
Usage and crash data
Release builds use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring. These collect app-usage events, crash reports and performance timings, and device and app details such as model, OS version and an app-instance identifier. We design events to avoid personal details such as names or journal text. This data is not tied to your account profile in our own database.
Why we use it
To sign you in, run the app and its features (journal, saved places, recommendations that match your preferences, nearby cafés, reminders), keep it secure, and find and fix crashes and slow screens. We do not sell your data and the app shows no third-party advertising.
Where it is stored and who processes it
Your account data lives in Google Firebase and Google Cloud: Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage (journal and profile photos, readable only by your account), Cloud Functions, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Firebase Remote Config and Firebase App Check. Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring data is processed by Google. Maps are provided by Google Maps and Mapbox. These providers process data on our behalf and under their own terms, and may do so in countries other than yours.
Access to your account data is limited by security rules so that only your signed-in account can read or change it. Our staff admin tools can read and edit public content (cafés, recipes, blog posts), not your journal.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account and everything in it at any time, in the app or by asking us. See how to delete your account for the steps and exactly what is erased.
Your choices
- Location and notifications are optional and can be switched off in your phone’s settings.
- You can edit your name, photo, preferences and equipment in the app, and delete individual journal entries.
- You can ask us for a copy of, or a correction to, the personal data we hold about you (contact below).
Children
aravaa is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
